This public medical school is located in the southeastern region of Virginia, commonly known as Hampton Roads, in the city of Norfolk, VA. The area’s only tertiary level 1 trauma center is situated in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital which is part of the Eastern Virginia Medical School’s extended campus and training centers. This also includes the prestigious Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters which is designated as the only standalone medical facility in the entire state of Virginia dedicated to pediatric medical care.
This medical school is always at the forefront of groundbreaking medical education, research, healthcare and specialty medical care developments in geriatrics, pediatrics, cancer care and diabetes. It was also the first hospital to deliver a healthy infant conceived through IVF.
Graduates of EVMC continue to give back to their communities and the entire world through volunteer medical missions like Operation Smile, CONRAD, Global Brigades and Physicians for Peace. University of Virginia School of Medicine

The well-known University of Virginia School of Medicine is the graduate medical school program based at the University of Virginia located in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia. It was founded back in 1819 by the revered Thomas Jefferson no less. Since then, the college has consistently continued to be highly ranked as among the top quartile medical schools that are research-oriented by the well-established U.S. News and World Report.
Medical students can choose between an M.D. Doctor of Medicine degree or a Doctor of Philosophy PhD degree. The school has long been associated with the prestigious University of Virginia Health System, and the medical school is also connected with the Inova Health System in this region as well.
The UVA SoM has a rich history and is the tenth oldest established medical school in the United States. The school’s founding fathers advocated for a true hands-on learning program. It had the country’s first-ever anatomical theater where students could watch the operative procedures up close and as spectators developed by Thomas Jefferson himself.
Additionally, this country’s great leader also instituted the school’s first medical library by purchasing 8,000 books over 700 hundred of which were books on the medical sciences known as of that era.
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
