Centers for women’s health and Parkinson’s disease research are located at the Grand Rapids campus, while the university’s clinical services are centered at Lansing. The school’s public health and research programs are offered at the Flint campus.
Granting the M.D. degree, this medical school in Michigan offers the first two years of preclinical instruction at either the East Lansing campus or at the Secchia Center. Once you’re one of the 125 students enrolled annually at the school, you’ll receive four years of patient-centered medical training that immediately begins during your first semester. In addition to your early preclinical curriculum, your program includes a required four-year research project.
You’ll receive your clinical training at one of eight teaching hospitals. The school’s four primary teaching hospitals are Beaumont, Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak, and Troy. Other teaching hospitals include Dearborn, Taylor, and Wayne. Your third-year clerkship rotations will be at a Beaumont hospital; you’ll have a choice of locations for your fourth-year rotations.
University of Michigan Medical School

Ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s top national research schools, UMMS receives nearly 70 percent of the university’s total annual funding from the National Institute of Health. In fact, UMMS spends more on research than any other public university in the nation.
The school offers a number of educational options, including an M.D. program, an M.D./Ph.D. program, and Ph.D., M.S., premed and research postbac programs. As a UMMS student, your four-year M.D. program curriculum includes early clinical training at one of three university hospitals, 40 health centers or other facilities in the state.

Wayne State University School of Medicine

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine

If you’re considering a master’s degree, WMed grants M.S. degrees in both biomedical sciences and medical engineering.
Employing a unique holistic approach to the application process, the school considers your life skills and experiences, along with your personal characteristics, in addition to your academic achievements. You’ll need to submit your American Medical College Application Service application, your Medical College Admission Test score and between three and four letters of reference.
If you’ve met the school’s minimum academic requirements, you’ll complete a supplemental application, which includes three essay questions. You’ll then undergo an experience review, a phone interview, and two in-person interviews.
Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Located in East Lansing, the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine offers the D.O. degree, as well as a D.O.-Ph.D. degree that’s designed for students who desire training as both physicians and scientists and a D.O.-M.B.A. degree for those who want to include business training along with their physician’s education.
The school also maintains satellite campuses in Detroit and Salem Township. Your physician’s degree curriculum includes seven semesters of pre-clerkship training.
