The college’s four-year M.D. program core curriculum emphasizes medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
Your first two years include a preclinical curriculum that involves studying in small “module” groups. Before you begin your third-year clinical rotations, you must pass Step 1 of the United States Medical Learning Examination or USMLE. During your fourth year, you must pass Step 2 of the exam and report your score.

Emphasizing educating Oklahoma students to become osteopathic primary care physicians who will practice in their home state, Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine focuses on providing the health care needs of the state’s rural and underserved populations.
The college has been successful in achieving its mission, as more than half its graduates remain in the state to practice in a primary care specialty and nearly 25 percent practice in a community with a population of 10,000 or less. The Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association has granted the school accreditation status.
In addition to the D.O. degree program, the college offers several dual-degree programs, including the D.O./M.B.A., the D.O./Ph.D., the D.O./M.P.H., the D.O./M.S. in Biomedical Sciences and the D.O./M.S. in Health Care Administration. The four-year curriculum toward your D.O. degree combines biomedical sciences with clinical systems, including early hands-on clinical experience with simulations, patient models and live patients.
Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine Tahlequah

With a planned opening this fall, Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine Tahlequah will be the first tribal-affiliated medical college in the United States.
The college’s brand-new, 84,000-square-foot building will include anatomy, clinical skills, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and standardized patient labs and a simulation center equipped with computer-programmable mannequins. The structure will also house classrooms, lecture halls, faculty offices, and a gym.
Located next to the W.W. Hastings Hospital, the college has partnered with the Cherokee Nation with the goal of training primary care physicians to serve the health care needs of the state’s rural population. Although the school’s percentage of Native American students can be as high as 16 percent as opposed to only 0.2 percent nationwide, students of all races and ethnicities will be welcomed.
As a student, you’ll receive training in several specialties, including emergency, family and pediatric medicine.
